Response to ‘The Veldt’
In ‘The Veldt’ by Ray Bradbury, I noticed how it displayed one of the many negative aspects of technology. Basically, how technology can damage people’s relationships. The more time Peter and Wendy spent in the nursery, the weaker their bond with George and Lydia became. On page 10 of the story it says,” You’ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your children’s affections. This room is their mother and father, far more important in their lives than their real parents.” This shows how the nursery was of much more value to the kids than their own parents, which in my opinion is very bad. Also, when George finally shut down the nursery, Peter and Wendy were shocked. They both threw tantrums and Peter even said he hated his father and wished he was dead, according to pages 11 & 12. Wishing death upon one of your parents is the definition of a bad relationship. To make things even worse, on page 12 it is shown how Peter and Wendy actually locked their parents in the nursery just so that it can’t be shut down. They know their parents would become lions’ prey and still locked them in there, which really shows how much their relationship had fallen. Therefore, if it wasn’t for the nursery and the rest of their machine-based house, they wouldn’t have went from family to strangers. Spending valuable time with family is very important, and one thing that hinders them from doing so is the overuse of technology.

Response to ‘The Veldt’
After reading ‘The Veldt’ by Ray Bradbury, I noticed how it displayed one of the many negative aspects of technology. More specifically, how technology can damage people’s relationships. The more time Peter and Wendy spent in the nursery, the weaker their bond with George and Lydia became. As mentioned on page 10 of the story,” You’ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your children’s affections. This room is their mother and father, far more important in their lives than their real parents.” This clearly shows how the nursery was of much more value to the kids than their own parents, which in my opinion is very bad. Also, when George finally shut down the nursery, Peter and Wendy were distraught. They both threw tantrums and Peter even said he hated his father and wished he was dead, according to pages 11 & 12. Wishing death upon one of your parents is the definition of a relationship filled with hatred and resentment. To make matters even worse, on page 12 it is shown how Peter and Wendy actually locked their parents in the nursery just so that it can’t be shut down. They know their parents would become lions’ prey and still didn’t hesitate to lock them in there, which truly shows how much their relationship had fallen. Therefore, if it wasn’t for the nursery and the rest of their machine-based house, they wouldn’t have went from family to strangers. Spending valuable time with family is very important, and one thing that hinders them from doing so is the overuse of technology.
